JPMorgan Highlights Significant Bitcoin Risk; Analyst Predicts Drop

Strategy's BTC Sales and Market Impact

Strategy (MSTR) announced a policy to sell Bitcoin as needed for obligations, intensifying price pressure. JPMorgan flagged the policy as creating two‑way risk that fuels volatility. The firm holds about 4 % of the total BTC supply, so its buying and selling moves sway the market. Although it has $2.55 bn in cash for roughly 17 months of liabilities, the sales still threaten price stability.

JPMorgan's Recommendations

JPMorgan argues MSTR should keep cash reserves for 24‑36 months to reassure investors. It suggests issuing common stock, even at a discount to NAV, rather than liquidating BTC. Expanding dollar reserves would lower financing costs and reduce market risk. The bank believes a stronger cash buffer is more effective than continued BTC sales.

Options Market Warning

Analysts note the gamma exposure in Bitcoin options clusters around $60 k, with puts concentrated between $55‑60 k. A break below $55 k could trigger rapid declines, as few positions exist under that level. Combined with macro uncertainty and US ETF outflows, downside risk outweighs upside potential.
