Aptos advances an encrypted mempool upgrade to shield users from frontrunning and censorship

Encrypted Mempool Proposal

Aptos has submitted a governance proposal for a native encrypted mempool that hides pending transactions until block finalization. The feature would let users submit transactions privately with a single click while preserving network speed and transparency. If approved, Aptos would become the first Layer 1 blockchain offering built‑in encrypted transaction submission at the protocol level.

MEV Mitigation and DEX Activity

The mempool targets frontrunning, censorship, and order‑flow manipulation that fuel the MEV market. Aptos cites rapid DEX growth, with spot volumes exceeding $200 billion per month in 2025 and averaging $476 billion in Q3. By keeping transaction intent confidential until execution, the proposal aims to protect traders and reduce validator‑based profit opportunities.

Technical Design and Token Impact

The system uses threshold cryptography and a distributed key generation before each validator epoch, encrypting payloads that validators collectively decrypt after block ordering. A batched decryption scheme lets validators produce a single partial decrypt for many transactions, cutting communication and computation costs. The upgrade integrates into consensus with minimal latency, and APT’s price has risen from $0.82 to near $1.10 over the past month.
